The building of modular hospital facilities near the existing hospital. The first module will be the Paediatric unit equipped with a kitchen, canteen, laundry, guesthouse, teaching areas and other services, occupying 1,300 sq.m. The working plan of the facilities has already been prepared thanks to the work of our architect, Giorgio Rosental and his staff.

The development of a post-graduate programme for medical personnel in which the University of Hargeisa will collaborate with the University of Torino The training of technical personnel in maintenance of existing equipment and machines and the strengthening of managerial skills and competencies. Improved operations of the existing healthcare facilities, thanks to specialized equipment, the activation of the equipment and machines not presently in use and the availability of sufficient supplies of medicine.

The construction of a guesthouse to host at least 3 Somali doctors willing to return to work in their own country; the creation of three grants covering work expenses (a one time allowance and travel expenses paid for by the project) and subsequent job placement in local public services.

Promotion of increased awareness of local employees regarding issues of nutrition, targeting child malnutrition in particular, through a mothers’ training programme. In particular, the project will be aimed at refugee populations who are more vulnerable.

Promotion of increased sustainability of the hospital: on grounds near the hospital a specialized production unit will be created to provide fresh foods which would otherwise be unavailable today.
